LIBERTY! A collage of dance/theater vignettes based on the works and home of Augustus Saint-Gaudens, in Cornish, New Hampshire, where he founded an influential artists colony. From his sculpture and collected works will unfold a story from seed through innocence to discovery and exploration of the contents of three Greek vessels carried by women in the bas-relief copied from the Parthenon. One dance will capture the sense of commitment as depicted by the volunteers in the Shaw memorial, followed by a dance balancing gender energies, taken from the male and female models Saint-Gaudens used in the Adams Memorial. As one art form is inspired by another, and dance is sculpture set in motion, LIBERTY! will further interpret and expand upon Saint-Gaudens’ vision using live music and the spoken word to create Dream Theater. His last work a gold coin, shows Liberty striding forth, decisive and energized, bringing forward into the world the concept of shared resources and economic liberty for all. The idea of LIBERTY! is to encourage participants and viewers to further the concept of Liberty in our lives and communities. By exploring the sculptural works of Augustus Saint-Gaudens we will create LIBERTY a new, full length dance/theater work including live music and the spoken word, both new to Flock performances. 7 sculptural works of Saint-Gaudens’ and his home in Cornish, NH, inspire the conception of LIBERTY. The story unfolds from innocence to discovery and exploration of the contents of 3 vessels carried by women, seen in a bas-relief.
